Supporting 5 jp schools
challenges
  • In India, the Right to Education (RTE) movement has resulted in a steady enrollment of over 95% of children between 6 to 14 years of age which implies a large student population.

  • Challenge is to ensure the quality of the education provided to them.

  • Studies have shown that at Grade 8 level, 73% can only read at Grade 2 level and only 50% can do 3-digit by 1-digit numerical division accurately. (Aser 2018)

  • Problems often exacerbate as we move to rural communities. For instance, less than half of the schools are able to maintain on-campus drinking water facilities and girls’ toilets, and access to libraries is a distant dream for most. (Aser 2018)

Jnana Prabodhini (JP) is supporting 5 primary and secondary schools in Pune, Nigdi, Salumbre, Solapur, and Osmanabad districts

solutionS
  • Jnana Prabodhini firmly believes that every human being can enhance their physical, intellectual and moral potential through holistic education and is committed to providing the necessary financial, technological and infrastructural support. To this end, Jnana Prabodhini runs 5 educational centres at Pune, Nigdi (dist. Pune), Salumbre (dist. Pune), Solapur, Harali (dist. Osmanabad).

  • Prabodhini emphasizes individual and group projects in sciences and social sciences frequently throughout elementary and high school education.

  • Focusing on experiential learning,  practical education is enhanced in a student-centric fashion by providing unrestricted access to laboratories.

  • While physical education is indispensable at each school, the Nigdi centre runs a specialized wing which excels at producing highly competitive athletes.

  • The inclusion of relevant skills in the curriculum gives Prabodhini centres the adaptability to their surroundings, for example, agricultural and horticultural facilities at Harali and Salumbre centres.

  • Through frequent activities such as study tours and adventure camps, Prabodhini involves itself in creating a sentient society.

current state

While infrastructural development at Prabodhini’s schools is a continuous and long-standing process, we at JPF and our donors have successfully contributed to this cause by

  • Donating $5,000 to purchase a state-of-the-art laser cutting machine at Jnana Prabodhini Pune in December 2019. The machine was installed in July 2020 and has been helping students in their projects and improving their understanding of manufacturing processes.

  • Donating $6,000 to develop a playground at Jnana Prabodhini’s Nigdi center, enhancing students’ physical education.

How does it work?
  • Your donation can help bring countless new ideas, bold initiatives and programs from the drawing board to the deserving and push through to make its brand of excellence in education truly accessible to all.

  • Breaking the trend of making education a commodity, Prabodhini aims to provide assistance through subsidizing or even waiving tuition and lodging, especially for students in need. At times, this entails building entirely new hostel facilities for instance, to cater to rural girls hiking considerable distances from their home, while sometimes it includes providing free education to every single student, such as at Harali.

  • The schools need funding for operational expenses, student fee concessions, and infrastructural development. Jnana Prabodhini insists on providing state-of-the-art learning facilities and laboratories with duly maintained modern equipment.
